A gift for the grandparents
A couple of weeks ago I have met with this lovely family. The grandparents received a gift voucher for a family photoshoot with the grandsons.
No way, they will sit still and smile
They contacted me to arrange it, not without any concerns though. First of all, my clients were worried about the boys potentially not co-operating. First of all, I reassured them. My background in education really has well-equipped me with some wonderful skills on how to deal with challenging children. Trust me, those two really weren't challenging, they were 4 and 2 years old boys who just loved to run around and climb everything. After discussing with their grandmother I recommended an outdoor photoshoot. This seemed to be the best option so that the boys could run around while I was capturing the moments on camera.
" We are NOT photogenic"
The next concern was to not be photogenic. Oh I get this! I also strongly believe that I am not photogenic in the slightest so I really do get it. But once again, I reassured them that the most important thing was to capture the love and the bond they have with the boys. They could just be themselves playing with the boys on the day and most of all, pretend I'm not there! I am experienced enough to know how to blend into the scenery and snapaway the best angles.
Session day!
On the day, we decided to meet up in the Coastal Park in Folkestone. This is a very familiar ground as my children love to come and play so know the place and I know exactly where to go! We were lucky on the day as it was really warm and sunny. In fact it was probably too sunny but there's always a way around it!
When the boys arrived, I could tell they were full of energy. They also knew they came to have their photos taken and that we had to take a little walk around before playing! As I knew a bit about the boys from chatting to their grandmother, I encouraged them to climb, jump and be silly. All those moments, I could capture on camera and they were really the best photos. When they were that little "too active", I shouted "freeze!" and that went down a treat. They would all stop and giggle away!
I honestly had the best time with them all and the session only lasted about 40 minutes. The best shots were taken in the first 20 minutes. The clients were delighted with their photos and now they have memories to cherish forever.
